Module 5-Moving Toward Dynamic Technologies
I think many teachers are moving toward the middle of the static to dynamic continuum in terms of using technology in the classroom. Teachers are using wikis, blogs, and other collaborative media in addition to some of the more static media such as podcasts, vodcasts, and Web pages. I think that as teachers become more comfortable using technology in their classrooms, they will continue to move toward the dynamic end of the continuum. Personally, having the support of my colleagues as we integrate more technology into our teaching is going to be the best way for me to move to the dynamic end of the continuum. Knowing that there are others going through the same challenges makes it easier to be brave in terms of trying new technology. I think that most teachers who continue to move forward with using more dynamic technology do so because they are not working in a bubble; they have the support of colleagues who are trying to integrate the same technologies. Not only is support key in moving toward the dynamic end of the continuum, but also instruction and practice in using dynamic technologies. The main reason many teachers do not use any non-static technologies is because they do not know how. Providing professional development on how to use technology will increase the likelihood that more dynamic technologies will be used in instruction.

ReplyDeleteNice concept map and nice use of color scheme. I agree that we are moving more toward the dynamic continuum. As technolgy progresses, we will have more dynamic technologies to work with.

MindMeister is a mind mapping software that I just discovered about a week ago. I haven't had the opportunity to use it, but it seems pretty cool. You seem to be able to do individual and collaborative mind maps. The website for MindMeister is www.mindmeister.com. Prezi is a presentation tool that I heard about last quarter. Again, I haven't used it yet, but it looks like a much more engaging way of doing presentations. Their site is http://prezi.com.

ReplyDeleteYour statement in terms of teacher progression towards a more dynamic training environment is right on point! Most teacher's don't take advantage of new technologies due to lack of training and fear of failure. The best approach is to train and continue training our educators so that they have the comfort levels needed to succeed. I also appreciate your sharing of resources, it truly helps.

ReplyDeleteI agree, there are alot of teachers that strive to move towards the dynamic features of technology, if given the oppurtunity to use technology and the education to use the tools. Your visual concept map is good and seems to be easy to follow. Good job with the posting.
